Estuaries

HUMAN INTERFERENCE
Pollution
Estuaries are at risk of pollution. They are also in risk of sewage, overfishing, land use, and sediment run-off. Over 90% of marine animals have been diminished as well as 65% of sea grass and wet land habitats. Until the last few decades, many estuary habitiats in North America were drained and converted into agricultural areas. Pollution is probably the most important threat to water quality in estuaries. Poor water quality affects most estuarine organisms, including commercially important fish and shellfish.
