There are four different types of estuaries. Here is a little bit about each of them.

  • Fjord Estuaries

          - A U shaped valley formed by glaciers              and then filled to become a fjord estuary

  • Bar Built Estuaries

-Formed when a shallow lagoon or bay            is protected by a sand bar or some                      barrier

  • Tectonic Estuaries

-Caused by folding or faulting of the                  land

  • Coastal Plain Estuaries

          - Formed when the sea level rises and fills an already existing river valley
